RCoA responds to new NHS performance statistics

In response to the latest performance statistics released by NHS England, Dr Liam Brennan, President of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, said:

"These figures show how the relentless pressures experienced across the NHS are continuing to have an adverse, yet avoidable, impact on the quality of patient care. The lack of available inpatient beds and increase in emergency admissions means that sick patients are still facing long waits for treatment.

In response to the NHS Reality Check Update 2018 report, released today by the Royal College of Physicians, Dr Liam Brennan, President of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, said:

"NHS staff are not superhuman. Working conditions that drain staff morale and wellbeing threaten the ability to deliver the high quality of care that patients deserve and rightly expect.
