He was a board member of The Journal of Antibiotics from its first issue in 1947 until his death in 1986 and contributed to it gaining its reputation as a leading international journal. We would like to thank his friends and followers who contributed to this special issue, as well as Managing Editor Dr. Yoshikazu Takahashi and Dr. Manabu Kawada for planning and coordinating this issue.
