MSDs

Where do I start?

Our Go Home Healthy microsite is a good place to start, with links to information, case studies and information on what HSE is doing.

You can also keep up to date on how we are working to reduce the risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders by subscribing to our MSDs e-bulletin

Go by the book!

The HSE Books website now has a section dedicated to musculoskeletal related publications allowing you to browse through the range of relevant titles.

L23 is a particularly useful guidance document explaining how to avoid, assess and reduce the risk of injury from manual handling.

Updated in 2016, it now includes risk filters which help identify those tasks that do not require a detailed assessment.

It also explains how HSE's assessment tools can be used as part of the risk assessment process.

Healthy working

Don't forget DSE!

Prolonged use of computer workstations and display screen equipment (DSE) can lead to neck, shoulder, back or arm pain, along with stress, fatigue and temporary eyestrain.

These disorders can be avoided if DSE assessments are carried out, equipment is set up correctly and good practice is applied.

'Healthy Working', developed jointly by HSL and Cardinus Risk Management Ltd, is DSE e-learning software that gives each employee the information they need to use DSE safely and prevent DSE discomfort or injury.

And finally...

Our first ever MSD Summit promises to be an engaging day full of learning, discussion and networking.

Taking place on 21st March 2018 in London, it will explain what HSE is doing to achieving significant improvements in preventing and controlling exposure to MSDs, what you can do about it and how current scientific thinking is starting to shape new and re-energised approaches to help us.

Tackling MSDs needs everyone to #WorkRight and share an ambition for workers to go home healthy.

We have just released an updated overview programme, detailing what delegates will find out about in the packed morning and afternoon sessions.
