We are very honored and pleased to dedicate this May issue of The Journal of Antibiotics to Professor Satoshi Ōmura, in recognition of his 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and his other great achievements. Accordingly, the issue also includes a list and overview of all 181 new compounds he has discovered in his 50-year career, encompassing nearly 500 compounds total. We are grateful to have received so many contributions from researchers all over the world, who hold Professor Ōmura in high esteem.

We would like to thank Managing Editor Dr. Kazuro Shiomi, the coordinator of this issue, for his hard work in planning and coordinating this very special publication.
